For Sale: 1952 MG TD in Hotchkiss, Colorado for sale in Hotchkiss, CO
Vehicle Description I've owned this car since 1997.
Purchased from a family friend who had owned it since 1978 when he purchased it from a gentleman in Minnesota.
I have some documentation going back but not complete.
It was built in late 1952 but first registered in '53.
Odometer read 38150 when purchased but cannot be verified.
Currently at about 40000 since it's driven mostly for shows and meetings.
Listed with New England MGT Register and MG Car Club, Rocky Mtn.

During the restoration, I discovered some unexpected elements.
Two metal plates welded to the underside of the frame, round supports in the engine bay, and two holes in the rear luggage deck.
Finally discovered that it had a racing history prior to 1978! The drivetrain had been swapped for a V8 and a roll bar added.
When its racing career was over, the V8 was removed and the original drivetrain reinstalled.
During the restoration I removed these elements when pretty much everything was rebuilt, replaced or upgraded.
The body was removed, taken down to bare metal, and some bad wood replaced.
The frame had some surface rust so it was coated with POR15 while the body was off.
The body was painted with a 2-pak catalyzed Clipper Blue paint which I would not describe as show quality but is very similar to the factory finish.
It does not have the deep clear reflection more typical of modern clear coated paints but the slightly cloudy reflection more typical of the paints from that era.
It looks correct for the cars's period.
Most of the chrome is not new but just cleaned and polished.
Some parts have been replaced as more cost effective than rechroming.
The only actual rechroming was a period AMCO luggage rack found on eBay.
The interior and upholstery are a kit w/ leather seats from MOSS.
The original steel wheels have been changed out for 60 spoke painted wire wheels w/ knockoffs.
The top, side curtains, and tonneau cover are like new Stayfast tan fabric.
The engine and head were rebuilt early in the restoration by Engine Masters in Denver w/ a slightly better cam and valves.
It had the original numbers matching brass engine tag but it was lost/misplaced during that process so it has a replacement tag.
The non-synchro 4-speed has been replaced by a 5-spd from HI-Gear in the UK.
The exhaust is stainless steel and a period correct top-end oiler has been installed.
The brakes and master cylinder have all been rebuilt w/ MOSS parts.
Everything works except the clock and wiper motor which should be rebuilt.
The speedometer has not been recalibrated for the 5-spd.
The car starts easily and runs and drives well.
The sale also includes a notebook documenting the restoration, owner and shop manuals, as well as factory jack, Whitworth wrenches and sockets, and other TD specific tools.
The car has a clean Colorado title.
It should be noted that this car predated the current VIN# system and the brass tags on the firewall have several numbers inc/ engine#, car#, body type#, and body number#.
As was common back then, it was titled under whatever the local authorities happened to pick from the above choices, in this case the engine #.
Further, they chose to ignore the forward slash marks within the engine # and the TD2 between them, using the first 4 letters and the last 5 digits as the VIN.
I believe it has been titled this way since new, at least in Minnesota, Iowa, and Colorado without any problems.
